Baby shower fun

Wow - now there’s a post title I never thought I’d write! I pretty much hate baby showers. I’m not really one to fawn over cute baby stuff, and am easily annoyed by people who can’t stop saying how adorable something is. I mean really, it’s baby stuff. It’s inherently cute. Does it really need to be repeated over, and over, and over, by a dozen people? When it comes right down to it, that’s pretty much what a baby shower is. Fawning and stupid games. Ugh.

On Saturday, I hosted a baby shower for a friend. I wanted to keep it as un-annoying as possible. Of course I knew that there would be some of the requisite fawning, but wanted to try something a little different. Inspired by Stephanie and Kathy, I thought it would be fun to have each of the guests stencil a onesie for the baby-to-be using freezer paper stencils.

I cut out the stencils ahead of time, and let the guests do the ironing and painting.

It was a huge hit! Everyone loved the idea, and had a great time being creative with the paint. The mom-to-be was thrilled with all the neat onesies, and I was thrilled that I didn’t have to make people smell baby food in diapers. :)

I’d definitely recommend this as a get-the-guests involved baby shower activity. It would also be great for a group of kids, as a birthday party activity or a girl scout/boy scout/4-H activity.

What a great idea!! Definitely better than sniffing baby food or melted chocolate in diapers.

That is a neat idea!! Much better than the things I’ve had to endure at baby showers!

I share your opinion of baby showers, they can be really awful. This would be super fun though, awesome idea!!

this is a TERRIFIC idea. i don’t mind the “guess the baby food” game, but i am always repulsed by the smelling diapers game. i’m definately keeping this in mind for future baby showers.

That is such an amazing idea! If I ever have children, I think I have to plan the baby shower, after seeing how my sisters handled their showers…Oh, I am a control freak. I love the onesies!

That really is a fabulous idea. I too hate baby showers, well almost all showers, I find them tedious and boring. Something like that owuld actually make th event fun, and it’s really useful for the mom.

There is no baby showers here in Croatia! But, there is something even more annoying - after Mom and baby come from hospital all family and friends sudenly start feeling big urge to come over and visit! Believe me, I wanted to kill them all, specially ’cause many of those didn’t see me for years! Why, oh why?!?!

Great onesies!

Such a great idea! I have 2 baby showers to plan (yipes!) and I’m not a fan of them either. I’ve been trying to think of ways to make it a bit more enjoyable for all, and this is just the ticket - I’m going to steal it!

As a recipient of fawning baby showers, I can assure you that mothers-to-be don’t necessarily like all the cutesy stuff either. I didn’t want a traditional baby shower (heck, pass me the champagne please) but as the recipient I was at the mercy of my very kind and well-intentioned hostesses.

My friends also came up with the onesie idea, but used fabric paint and pens directly on the clothes.

There’s got to be a way to have a more sophisticated baby shower though. No games!

Best idea ever. I hate doing the stupid games and lists and unscrambling of diaper and other words. VERY COOL and cute as heck and USEFUL!
