I used to be a regular donor, then around 2000, the FDA decided that anyone who was military or a military dependent and had lived in western Europe between 1980 and 1990 (that's for Germany -- other countries have an even longer period) for 6 months or more may have eaten British beef (sold in the commissaries there) and therefore may be harboring mad cow disease. You cannot believe how many regular donors like me this took out of the system!
